Official Response:

In November 2020, this Big Idea was passed at a Student Panel to get the University to sign their name to the open letter, and stand in solidarity with trans students and staff. Over the next few months, the Officers met with the Universities Senior Leaders and lobbied them to sign the open letter.

In total, 136 companies came together, including the University of Huddersfield, to sign the 'Trans Rights are Human Rights' letter and statement and highlight their support for trans colleagues, employees and students.

Big Idea:
On September 14th, Stonewall UK, Britain’s leading LGBTQ+ equality charity, announced that 136 major UK companies had come together in a show of support for trans communities. The companies, many of which include other universities, have added their names to a public statement to say that trans rights are human rights, and to highlight their support for trans colleagues, employees and customers. Nancy Kelley, Chief Executive at Stonewall said "At a time when trans rights feel increasingly under threat, the diversity of all these businesses taking part today shows there is a wealth of support for trans people at the most senior levels of British industrial and cultural life".

Please sign the petition to indicate your support for the University to add their name to the open letter, and to stand in solidarity with trans students at the University of Huddersfield and across the country.
