Here at Huddersfield, we want to make sure our sports offering satisfies the needs of all our students, whether you’ve never participated in sport before or consider yourself a performance athlete.

In collaboration with the University of Huddersfield & Activehud, we at the SU do this through our ‘PLAY, COMPETE, PERFORM’ pathway.

Play

Our ‘Play’ offering is the entry-level into the amazing sports available at Huddersfield. There are two strands to play, one through Activehud and the other through our SU Sports Clubs. They’re the perfect opportunity to try something new and keep active whilst at university.

Activehud

The sessions run through Activehud are a great opportunity to turn up and play sports without that cost and time commitment. Their sport programme gives you the chance to take part in sport in a fun and relaxed environment with over 20 sessions each week.

Students’ Union Sports Clubs

These sessions are run through our Students’ Union clubs and are a great opportunity to keep active whilst also benefitting from the social perks that come with being part of a sports club.
Most of our clubs offer a tiered membership, which is perfect for students who want to train and be part of the social side of a sports club… without the commitment of competing every week.

Compete

Our ‘Compete’ offering is perfect for students who wish to take that next step in sports and represent your University in British University & College Sports (BUCS) and various other competitions!

With dedicated training sessions led by quality Head Coaches, our Competitive membership entitles you to all the playing and social benefits our Students’ Union Sports Clubs offer!

As part of our Competitive Sports Strategy, 9 of our sports teams here at Huddersfield will receive additional support, as silver or gold tiered teams, in 2023/24.

Perform

Our ‘Perform’ offering is brand new to the University and unique to our amazing Netball Club!

As our Platinum tiered club, Netball will receive the highest level of support available as our student members will be supported to excel both on the court and academically.

Netball Scholarships

The University of Huddersfield is proud to offer netball scholarships to talented students who wish to fulfil their sporting ambitions whilst studying for a degree. If you are competing at regional or international level, you could be eligible for a scholarship.

In collaboration with ActiveHud, we want to ensure all students in BUCS competitions receive a high-quality experience and that our teams are in a position to succeed competitively. We look to reward the clubs who buy in to our competitive sports culture and are committed to progressing their performance outcomes.
