Fashion Brand Marketing student shares her experience working at Huddersfield SU as a first-year student.

Hi, I have been working at Huddersfield SU since September 2021 as a Social Media Assistant. Working at the SU has been a major learning experience for me. This was my first time in a work environment and Huddersfield SU was able create a friendly, patient, and enjoyable atmosphere for me.

I learned many valuable lessons whilst working in social media including how to take a break. Sitting in the office writing blogs or working social media posts was sometimes stressful but I let myself to step out of the office or grab snack from the SU shop to relieve my stress. Having a short break allowed me to step back into the office and work in a positive and healthy manner.

The marketing dream team allowed me to express my creativity through social media content which I was appreciative of. Being diagnosed with dyslexia has often been a struggle for me when writing content for social media and articles. However, having the marketing team double check the content and giving me the thumbs up has made feel safe and secure.

Studying Fashion Brand Marketing and working at the SU I have learned to balance my work, personal life, and my job. I did this by making sure to stay on top of my workload and managing and planning work shifts and lectures. Huddersfield SU were extremely flexible when it came choosing my shifts, which I was able add into my busy university schedule.

Overall, I have enjoyed my time working here and I am grateful to have earned the opportunity to work in inclusive and diverse workplace that supports students to make their student life better.
