What a thrilling three days it has been! The eagerly anticipated Varsity 2024 competition between Huddersfield University and Bradford University has come to an end, leaving us all with incredible memories.

Day One

Day one of the Varsity 2024 was certainly action-packed. The Men’s Basketball match kicked off the day, with Bradford taking an early lead of 0-1. Their remarkable skill and determination were clear from the start.

Following the basketball match, attention turned to the Varsity and Aztecs Cheerleading squad, who delivered an awe-inspiring performance. Despite their infectious enthusiasm, Bradford extended their lead to 0-2.

The night concluded with the women's netball team match. Both teams showcased exceptional teamwork; however, Huddersfield made a strong comeback, narrowing the score to 1-2 in favour of Bradford by the end of the match.

Day Two

The men's volleyball team started off day two with spectacular spikes, dives and blocks that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. The men's volleyball match ended with a score of 0-3, with Bradford remaining in the lead overall with 1-3.

Next, we headed to the poolside, where the men's and women's swimmers from both universities showcased their skills. The swimmers gave it their all, with each lap pushing the limits. The competition was fierce, but our swimmers swam to success, with the men's swimming team beating Bradford 6-5, bringing the scores to 2-3. The women's team gave their best effort; however, Bradford took the lead, bringing the scores to 2-4.

Back on the court, the women's volleyball match was an intense and closely fought battle that sadly ended with Bradford winning 2-5. Can we bring it back?

The final match of day 2 was the women's netball team 2, and what a match it was! After a close game, the final scores were 46-40 to Huddersfield, bringing the overall score to 3-5.

Day 3

On the final day of the competition, the athletes brought their A-game with Bradford in the lead; everything was to play for to keep the cup where it belongs.

The final Varsity Games got off to an exhilarating start with climbing. Each climber scaled challenging routes with nothing but pure strength. With every participant giving their all, Huddersfield climbed to success with an outstanding score of 166.6, putting the scores at 4-5 to Huddersfield.

The Cricket game highlighted strikes, bowls and plenty of runs as both teams battled fiercely against each other. Bradford took another point, scoring 1-2 and bringing the overall score to 4-6. Next up were the Men's Football matches, a thrilling experience with the players demonstrating their fierce competitive spirit. Huddersfield's first two teams emerged victorious with a score of 1-0 over Bradford, bringing our overall score to 5-6.

The Badminton matches showcased both teams demonstrating their agility and quick reflexes. Huddersfield's men's team ruled the court with an impressive score of 345-315, bringing their overall score to 6-6. The women's team continued this winning streak, bringing the overall score to 7-6 for us. The men's football 1 team match was equally intense, with Huddersfield securing another win with an incredible score of 4-2, extending our lead to 8-6.

The final match of the day, the Men's Rugby League game, had us all on the edges of our seats, with both teams giving it their all. However, it was Bradford who secured another victory, with a score of 20-36. But what was the overall score?

At the highly anticipated closing ceremony, the excitement was sky-high. The final scores were announced with an overall score of 8-7 to Huddersfield... we did it! We're keeping the cup for another year achieving a back-to-back win.
