Your safety and wellbeing is our priority, and this Welcome Week we’ve put in places lots of initiatives to keep you safe.
When you collect your HudCrawl t-shirt you’ll be able to pick up a free anti-spiking drinks cover to use during the evening. Most bars in Huddersfield also provide these alongside spikeys. Our friendly staff will also be based outside Kingsgate handing out free bottles of water.
During the evening, there will be 6 police officers working. Most of them will be in town centre, walking around the HudCrawl route, but there will also be two around the Halls and Campus providing safer walking routes home at the end of the evening.
The Council’s Safety Bus will also be outside the Kingsgate Centre on Monday and Wednesday evening. The bus is open to anyone who may find themselves in a vulnerable position. The bus and its team of trained staff from Change Grow Live’s CHART Kirklees drug and alcohol service and Locala are on hand to help people report sexual harassment, provide a safe space if someone is feeling threatened, and offer safety and harm minimisation support for those enjoying the nightlife of Huddersfield.
All venues are part of the Ask for Angela scheme, so if you’re at all worried just head to the bar and ask to speak to Angela.
The university security hub is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can be contacted on 01484 472220.
If there’s anything the Students’ Union can do during the week, just find a member of staff in a pink t-shirt, and we’ll be happy to help!
