On Wednesday 20 November H-KARTS, the University of Huddersfield Karting Club organised the Yorkshire Cup held at the Pole Position Indoor Karting in Leeds. It was a successful event with five other local Universities getting involved: Leeds, Leed Met, Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam and York. Each University had an A and B team, consisting of four drivers for a two hour endurance race.
Huddersfield A and B team started 2nd and 4th on the grid respectively. The grids were randomised by the track staff handing out numbers at the beginning of the race. Josh Butcher moved from 2nd to 1st position within half a lap to take the lead ahead of York’s James Ludlam. The B team worked their way up to 3rd after the 1st stint, maintaining this position until Jay Brown closed the gap on 2nd at the start of the last stint. No mistakes from Huddersfield enabled us to take 1st and 2nd.

Jay Brown, club social media manager said: “It was a great day for H-KARTS yesterday. the Yorkshire cup is a really tough event that throws drivers and teams many different challenges, from driver changes, overtaking slower backmarkers and not quite knowing your position on track! But yesterday was a fantastic result for us and we will be racing just as hard in the remaining three rounds.”
Congratulations to our H-Karts team, we are looking forward to hear about their further successes.
