Huddersfield Warriors Cheerleaders have taken top prize in a competition to boost the popularity of their sports club.
The Warriors took on a challenge laid down by VP Student Activities, Jordan Aird, to attract new members to their club through the use of Facebook with a prize of £150 of unallocated funding up for grabs.
Their winning effort saw the team perform a parody video of Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ around the University and showed off their impressive acrobatic ability and social media prowess.
Speaking on behalf of the Warriors, Gemma Birrell said: “We've worked together using our skills both cheer related and outside of cheer to create this video and we're all very proud.
“We've had so much fun as a team these past few weeks and have been overwhelmed by the support from our friends, the SU and other societies within the University!”
She added: “We wanted to show everyone what we did. We don't just cheer, we compete, perform, socialise and so much more.”
The success of the video saw a boost for the Warriors across all their social media channels as they picked up followers on Instagram, Twitter as well as a number of new likes on their Facebook page.
This was in part down to the video’s impressive reach of 10,080 people while it racked up 1,754 views on Youtube.
When announcing the winner, Jordan Aird said: “The Huddersfield Warriors fully deserved to win our Refreshers’ competition.
“The video they produced to encourage people to join cheerleading not only showed that anyone could and should give cheerleading a go… but it also showed how much fun being part of one of our clubs or societies is!”
