After being discussed at the Student Panel, the idea was rejected by the groups. The reason being that the groups stated that a number reading on a building does not mean anything to most students. However, all the groups demonstrated a clear interest in sustainability and emphasised student's interest in the environment. They made a list of things that the University should consider, these considerations will be fedback to the University through relevant channels (such as the sustainability group). Do check out the minutes, to understand why the panel made its decision + further points on things that could improve sustainability at Huddersfield: Student Panel Minutes @ Huddersfield Students' Union (huddersfieldsu.co.uk)
Having smart meters installed outside University buildings is crucial for sustainability. These meters provide real-time data on energy use, allowing for better monitoring and management of resources. By tracking energy usage, our University can identify areas of inefficiency and implement strategies to reduce waste and try to lower their carbon footprint. This not only helps to save money on bills but also contributes to a more environmentally friendly campus.
Overall, in the long run, I believe having smart meters on campus will help University to rethink their building usage and will help in the fight for sustainable world.
