I can’t believe it’s time to welcome very lovely folks like yourselves to Huddersfield again, as it feels just like yesterday we were meeting last year’s freshers. After months of planning, Welcome Festival 2019 is nearly here and we can’t wait for you to be part of it! Replacing Freshers’ Festival this year, Welcome Festival is bigger and better and most importantly has something for everyone. We know you’ve all worked really hard to get here, whether you’re a first-year or a returning student, undergraduate or post-grad and we wanted to make sure that you have a great start to term one!

As usual, we've got our main events but we’ve added so much more, which is why this year Welcome Festival is more than just one week. We know lots of you move into your accommodation early in September and our very own American Football & Cheerleading Clubs will be around halls to welcome you to town!

This year at the Welcome Fair you’ll get to know me, the rest of your Officer team and the whole of the SU a whole lot better too. We’ll be there to greet you on University Square with fun games, competitions and advice on University life. We’ve also got some big companies like Amazon, Wilkos and Domino’s coming to campus and giving out freebies!

Make sure you have a look over the full programme of events, there are lots that are completely free but you’ll also want to make sure you buy tickets for any paid events in advance or risk them selling out!

Want to know more about what’s new this year?

If you’re looking for a more chilled start to the term something like Coffee Crawl or Mature Cheddar might be more your style. Looking for some fun? By popular demand,Roller Disco is back again this year and we’ve added Laser Tag into the mix too! We are Family - Mad Science is also a new addition this year, great for those of you with young families to bring them along!

Keep an eye out for blogs from the rest of your Officer team as they will give you further details about our events. Make sure you follow us on social media to keep up-to-date with all the Welcome Festival news.

Also keep an eye out for events hosted by our Sports Clubs and Societies, as there’ll be lots going on, you’ll find something that will match your particular taste.

Keep this one thing in mind, “THERE IS SOMETHING IN IT FOR ME”.

I personally can’t wait to see you all in September,

Emmanuel,

SU President
