HarvestHud, a student-led volunteering project, and Students at the Heart of Hud, a termly volunteering event, have both been shortlisted for the Huddersfield Examiner Community Awards 2015.
HarvestHud is a project set up and run by students at Huddersfield which grows fresh fruit and vegetables at an allotment based at Storthes Hall. The fresh food, along with dry goods that the group collect around campus, is then donated to the local food bank, The Welcome Centre. HarvestHud has been shortlisted for the Community Project Award 2015 which recognises projects that benefit the local area.
In addition, Students at the Heart of Hud, an event run by the Students’ Union, has been nominated for the Community Event of the Year. This award acknowledges events that bring the local community together. Students at the Heart of Hud does just that by organising five different volunteering opportunities for students to get involved in for a day whilst supporting a range of community needs.
The winners of each category will be announced at the Examiners Award Ceremony at the John Smith’s Stadium on 3 June.
Congratulations to everyone involved with both of these fantastic initiatives and good luck.
