The biggest sporting event in the University calendar is returning to Huddersfield.

Involving more than 2000 students across 17 sporting disciplines, this year’s Varsity is set to be the biggest ever with students going head-to-head both on and off the pitch.

Eight venues across Kirklees will play host to the 27-year-old rivalry where winner takes all.

The first Varsity between Huddersfield and Bradford took place in 1988 and has continued to go from strength to strength ever since.

The event itself has evolved over the years to allow for more sports to be included and to accommodate the ever growing interest from spectators; however the principles remain very much the same.

The format of the contest - over 20 matches across at least 17 sports each played for one point - very much instils the ethos of Varsity which is all about teamwork, good sportsmanship and pride in the University you are from.

Fixtures for this year’s event will be contested over two days with a spectacular opening ceremony kick-starting the competition on Tuesday 24 March followed by the Men’s Basketball 1^st team fixture.

A packed Wednesday see’s fixtures taking place across the town culminating with a Rugby Union showdown at Lockwood Park. After the final fixture, the Varsity Cup will be presented to the university with the most points.

This year there are two different tickets available for Varsity. Free tickets are available for the Opening Ceremony and Main Event tickets cost just £5 which also includes your Varsity T-Shirt – more details can be found below.

Opening Ceremony and Men’s Basketball – FREE

This ticket will give you entry to the University Sports Hall for the official Varsity opening ceremony on Tuesday 24 March. This will be followed by the Men’s Basketball 1st team fixture to kick start the Varsity competition.

*Please note that a Varsity t-shirt will not get you into this venue. Tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis.*

Varsity Main Event - £5

This ticket can be exchanged for a FREE t-shirt and will get you into all venues and on the Varsity shuttle buses on Wednesday 25 March. In addition to this, your t-shirt will provide you with FREE entry into Tokyo for the official after party.
