Buying university textbooks can be a painful process as you see chunks of your student loan go to big retailers demanding £20, £30, £50 or even more for a single book. According to a recent study, the average spend on books by someone achieving a First Class degree was £239, while those who graduated with a 2:2 spent on average £179, and those who left uni with a third £146. This can be an unwanted surprise if you were hoping that student loan of yours was all just for socialising!
At the Students’ Union we understand that spending hundreds of pounds on textbooks isn’t exactly high on many students’ list of priorities so we have invested in a project to help save you money (and even make a profit too!).
Now’s your last chance if you are wanting to sell at our Book Sale – you have just 3 days to drop off your books to the Students’ Union helpdesk, with the fast-approaching deadline being 12:00 Monday 28 September.
For those of you wanting to beat the system and get your textbooks for the upcoming academic year on the cheap, our Book Sale is a must-attend event! We have over 250 books in so far, and we are expecting more to come up until the Monday drop off deadline. Taking place next Wednesday (30 September), the Book Sale will be running from 10:00-15:30 on Floor 5 of Student Central, in the area between HudLets and RadioHud.
We are also very pleased to announce that the Book Sale will be officially opened by Huddersfield Town FC Ambassador, and former Town player, Andy Booth – who will also have a stall from 10:00-11:00 selling and signing books on the history of our local football team.
So come on over to get a head start on your degree, meet a local celebrity and save a shedload of money! #SUBookSale
