The annual SU Awards took place last night with a spectacular Greatest Showman theme. We had it all, from circus performers to glitter to close up magic to hotdogs but most importantly all the students gathered together to celebrate all the hard work, great effort and achievements, from volunteers and student media, Sports Clubs and Societies, committee members and Course Reps.

What a year it’s been! Being the President of the Students’ Union has been an honour and a privilege. It was a special moment for me, being officially recognised by the National Union of Kuwaiti Students in the UK as the first Kuwaiti President of a UK Students’ Union.

I’d like to share with you some highlights from my year:

1. Varsity – winning while we played away at Bradford, the first time anyone has won away since 2012!
2. Being shortlisted for Students’ Union of the Year at the Educate North Awards
3. The range of international events added to our already full events calendar like the International BBQ during Freshers’

The standard this year was fantastic which is why we added even more awards, including the Varsity Award!
