Student Leadership Award winners Alizée Marchand, Christina Shevill and Clementine Crowther, joined the University's Vice-Chancellor Bob Cryan for afternoon tea to celebrate thier achievements over the past year.

Alizée, Christina and Clementine each received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Student Leadership at last month's SU Awards ceremony.

First year events management student, Clementine, said: "Gaining my student leadership award at the Vice-Chancellor’s level has allowed me to be recognised for all the volunteering I do. I feel this has definitely allowed me to become more employable as it is an amazing talking point when it comes to interviews.

“I really enjoyed writing my portfolio and reflecting on how much fun I had during my volunteering opportunities and projects, and how it has changed me as a person in gaining a wide variety of skills and experience."

Clementine’s portfolio encompassed many examples from various volunteering projects, such as Girlguiding, Cancer Research and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, all of which made her eligible for the ‘Active Involvement in Community Life’ award.

For her achievements as a union council member and a course representative for politics, Christina received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award in the ‘Making the Student Voice Heard’ category while Alizée was awarded the ‘Leading a Fun and Enriching Student Life’ Vice-Chancellor’s Award for her portfolio containing several instances of great work as the president of the French society.

All three students not only demonstrated excellent examples of their involvement in student life, but they were also able to accurately reflect on the skills they had each developed during their activities, and understand the positive impact their actions have on others.

The Student Leadership Award’s aim is to help students make the leap from higher education into working life smoothly, by equipping them with a complete portfolio representative of the key skills employers look for in graduates.
