Various charities, including Yorkshire Children’s Centre and Action on Hearing Loss, have contacted the Students’ Union to commend student volunteering contributions in improving the lives of local people.
Yorkshire Children’s Centre, based in Huddersfield, serves communities locally by supporting and improving the lives of children, young people and families in need. Support volunteers, such as students Lianne and Jessica, who have donated their time over the past year, are crucial to the charities success.
In addition, fundraisers such as Fay, Josh and Serena, a group of final year students who have undertaken events to raise money for the charity, are vital to keeping Yorkshire Children’s Centre in operation. Ruth Duffy, Marketing Manager at the charity said: “The volunteers are a breath of fresh air! They are caring, fun and supportive and work great as a team. Yorkshire Children’s Centre really appreciates their help, thank you!”
National charity Action on Hearing Loss who support people with hearing loss and tinnitus have also praised student volunteers input to their organisation. Event volunteers, Natasha and Tina, have organised fundraising activities across Huddersfield, raising money for the charity while gaining experience to improve their graduate skills. The volunteers first event was a Valentines activity day, raising £61.00 for Action on Hearing Loss, which included a raffle made up of donated prizes from local businesses and a fancy dress ‘photo booth’.
