Last night, Huddersfield SU helped you get mashed – but not in the way you’re thinking!

Our sports clubs were out on the town for the Sports Mash-Up, and they did it dressed as each other; Archery dressed as American Football, Horse Riding dressed as HUPDA, Thai Boxing dressed as Trampolining, and everyone was out in force for the event which started at our partner bar, The Warehouse. After that, the teams traveled to Lord Wilson, Rock Café, Mavericks, Verve, Five and then on to Tokyo. 

Over 500 of you attended, making it the most successful Sports Mash-Up event EVER in Union history – well done you!

You can find the full list of the matched-up mash-ups over here. Some of our favourites were Rugby League dressing as Cheerleading, Football as the Horse Riding club, and Hockey as Archery, but everyone invovled made a great effort and it was great to see the costumes! 

Jordan Aird, VP Activities had this to say; 

"After originally being set up by the Rugby Union boys, I'm delighted with how Sports Mash-Up went the first time the SU took it on! Falling in Student Enterprise Week, the sole focus of the event was to encourage our sports clubs to be proactive in their fundraising efforts.

All the money from ticket sales will go directly back into our teams' budgets, and just under 500 wristbands were sold - the event was a huge success! It just goes to show how much of a force our sports clubs (and societies - for which we will look to do something similar for in term 2) can be when they come together!"

Altogether we raised very close to £1000 from ticket sales, and guess what – it will all go straight back into sports clubs’ budgets this year! So you had a great night out, and made some nice moolah for your club while you were at it; can you get a bigger win-win? We think not.

The event proved so popular that we’re already looking at ways to recreate it in the new year, and there’s a strong suggestion there may be a similar Societies Mash-Up to look out for! Keep your eyes thoroughly peeled for further details, and thanks everyone for coming along.
