What an exciting week that was for everyone associated with the ISoc! We raised an incredible £3,710 during Charity Week; none of which could have been raised without your help!

Charity Week, a student led initiative supported by Islamic Relief, graced us last week. We dedicated all our efforts to help raise money for orphans and needy children all around the world. The slogan for Charity Week this year amongst all universities worldwide was ‘all on the same page’. We wanted to form that through the unity and kindness of everyone on campus. We were just getting used to the clock change, as the first day of charity week hit us. The smell of baked goods surrounded our stall in the SU and the large number of Krispy Kreme doughnuts came rolling in. We knew the days ahead would be a challenge, yet the drive and enthusiasm of volunteers blew us away.

As the sun set on the first day our first event began ‘Poetry & Games Night’. Amongst us was a talented individual who shared some of her heart-warming scripts. After hearing such words, we became inspired to make our own Charity Week poem. That was just the start. On the second day, We hosted a charity dinner at Kabanas. The turnout was amazing as we all got together for a noble cause. As the week was drawing a close we saw the return of our homeless project ‘Bare Necessities’. While giving out pizzas to the less fortunate and handing them slices of our Charity Week Bake Off cake, it hit home the importance of the week.

We were mesmerised by the turnout of volunteers, around 40 people helped out.. I know WOW! Incredible memories were made during Charity Week that will shape our students- developing and sprouting their ambition to grow both on a personal and societal level. We would like to thank our Isoc committee, the Students Union, the distributors and our lovely bunch of volunteers. This week couldn’t have been possible without you guys!

Charity Week 2016, we are patiently waiting for you!

As the Sun rises we take a step towards change.
Reflecting on the orphans in need.
As I get ready for the day ahead, I dress myself with garments of hope.
I envision every coin planted this week will be a seed.
That blossoms deep inside each youth.
Inspiring tomorrow’s professionals.
Volunteers eager to fulfil each job.
Anticipating each Krispy Kreme craving.
I sense the rush of energy within each soul.
Enthusiastic to sell those radiating scarfs.
That constant glow beaming from the distance.
Reaches the Buzz of the crowd,
To infinity and beyond they shout.
Letting love and joy dictate the tasks.
Yet I wonder if today will be as successful as the last.
Fascinated by the talent of Mike,
The perfection after each POP
Fulfils the desires of the students
A flash of moment transforms into a memory.
Gathering to feed those that are less fortunate.
I remind myself first and foremost.
We are all on the same page.
