Back in November, the Students’ Union launched its General Election campaign with one core aim of ensuring the student voice is heard at both a local and national level.
We spoke to hundreds of students about the campaign and received more than 200 individual ideas about what ideas they wanted addressed during the next government.
With a week left to register to vote we’re going to be posting each day about a topic that you said matters to you in the Student Manifesto. Remember, registering to vote is easy and only takes a couple of minutes online.
Despite recruiting students from across the world, a large majority of the student body is made up of students from the local area. A lot of these students rely on local transport to get to university however they feel that the current transport system in Huddersfield and Kirklees is inadequate.
This is in addition to limited parking within the town centre where students feel a new approach to affordable parking is needed.
Nationally the main argument currently sits around the building of new high speed rail links with HS2 and airport expansions - potentially two of the most expensive building projects the country has ever seen.
Locally, there may be a different story depending on the budgets that are given to local councils but students want to see an increase in funding so councils can make repairs and they also want to see a student transport card introduced on all public transport.
