On Monday 18th November, the Student Jury met for its termly review of Big Ideas put forward by students.  The Jury is made up of a group of 30 representative and randomly selected students from across the student population, and the role of the group is to discuss the latest motions put forward through the Students’ Union Big Ideas process.

Four motions were discussed:

• Essay mills should be banned.
• Create more quiet spaces on campus.
• Lobby the University to declare a climate emergency.
• Lobby Prince Andrew to resign as University Chancellor.

All four motions were passed unanimously by the Student Jury and the Students’ Union Officers and staff will work with the University, where appropriate, to look at how these motions can be taken forward.  We will post progress reports on each of the issues through our Officer blogs and the Big Ideas section of our website.

We recognise that there has been a large amount of media interest around the motion to lobby Prince Andrew to resign and we won’t be making any further comment on this at the current time. We welcome continuing student feedback on these motions and contact can be made via students.union@hud.ac.uk.
