Ready, steady, paint!
Here at the Students’ Union, we are very keen to promote all the great volunteering opportunities available to you students in the local community. However, as a staff team we also feel like it is important that we ourselves also go out and help the Huddersfield community as much as we can, we don’t want you to steal all the fun!
On Wednesday 26th July we took the entire staff team on a volunteering trip to Nields Primary and Nursery School in Slaithwaite to help redecorate the school, with our role being in charge of painting three of the classrooms.
Over the course of the day 25 of your Students’ Union staff members grabbed a paintbrush and got busy, some managed to paint themselves more than the walls but everyone thoroughly enjoyed becoming an artist for a little while.
Among the staff team was your newly elected Officers; myself, Wael, Jake, John and Justice who all jumped at the opportunity to help. Not only because we would be working in one of the educational institutions of Huddersfield, but by re-painting the class rooms of a local primary school, we knew that we could help improve the environment of the teachers, children and their parents; giving them a vibrant and exciting space to work in.
At the Students' Union we encourage you to take part in more opportunities just like this, hoping to give you a fun and enriching time at University, making loads of friends and providing you with the opportunity to get involved in anything you want…. and volunteering is the perfect way to do so!
If you are interested in volunteering, then look no further! Follow the link here to our excessive list of volunteering opportunities to you as students. As a staff team we will be getting involved in more volunteering opportunities throughout the year and can’t wait to go back to Neilds Primary and Nursery School to see how much our painting has helped the school!
If you have any questions about volunteering, or just fancy a chat, make sure you pop up to the SU or email me at su.communities@hud.ac.uk.
See you soon!
