Hi Folks,

We know that it is exam period and we’re wishing you all the best. The Students’ Union is always trying to work hard to provide as much assistance to all of our students, to ensure you get the most out of your education.

Some of you may be aware that Ramadan is starting next week while exams are still taking place. This means our Muslim students will be fasting for over 18 hours every day for a month. We realise that it must be difficult revising and attending exams on an empty stomach, our advice is to get plenty of rest, keep hydrated before and after your fast, and avoid high-energy exercise.

The Officer team, the SU CEO and some of our members of staff have decided to all fast for one day in order to better understand and show support to our Muslim students on Thursday the 17th of May.

We know that next year’s Ramadan will clash with the entire exam period and so we are working with the University to provide extra support and accessibility when it comes to your exam timetables. Not only that, we are also working on ensuring there are no exams on Fridays after midday, to ensure they don’t clash with Jumu’ah (Friday Prayers).

The University does operate a ‘fit to sit’ policy with respect to exams. This means that by attending an exam you are confirming that you are fit to undertake that assessment and any subsequent claim for ECs will not usually be accepted.

Guidance for any student considering an EC claim can be found here.

If you are struggling to sit your exams please come and speak to our Advice Centre who can help you work out what to do next.
