With Big Ideas Week being just around the corner your Students' Union Officer team have worked together with SU Staff to come up with a plan for making the most out of the week. The Officers will be out on campus all week, armed with blue 'Big Ideas' candyfloss and iPads to talk to you about changes you'd like to see at the University. Not sure what Big Ideas are? Check out the Big Ideas page for more information as well as a look at past ideas that have been passed and those that didn't make the cut!

Below are some messages from your Officer Team regarding their plans and aims for the week:

Big Ideas Week is coming soon, it’s always great to meet with you and collect ideas of how to make student life better and Big Ideas Week is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Your SU Officers, including myself, will be going around the campus every day of Big Ideas Week. We will be presenting some of our own ideas that we think will make your university experience awesome and you will have a chance to give us suggestions too. Those ideas could be about anything like education, activities or any other University services. One of the new ideas that I’m keen to achieve, is to work with the University to develop a Uni phone App I think all students should be able to access the portal from an App. In addition, I'm trying to make student’s ID available electronically on the Uni App so you can swipe using your smart phone if you leave your card at home. Finally, I’m more than happy to hear any new ideas to increase the engagement with our Sports Clubs and Societies.

WAEL ALENEZI

PRESIDENT

During Big Ideas Week, I will be searching for ideas on how we could make the University of Huddersfield and Huddersfield as a town a more sustainable place to live. I am currently working on a project called “Student Clear Outs” where we are looking to up-cycle and donate the things left by students when they move out of their halls and private houses. I feel like sustainability is something we could really work on here at Huddersfield, and without the Sustainability Society who unfortunately don’t exist anymore, I am looking to you the students for some brilliant ideas that I can try to make a reality!

TOM BOWDEN

COMMUNITY OFFICER

I'm looking forward to Big Ideas Week so that I can get lots of ideas for the Sports Clubs and Societies in terms of events and participation. I'm always looking for ideas that are fresh and new for students, so that we can keep current students engaged as well as targeting new and enthusiastic individuals. I'm really keen to smash last year's engagement and participation numbers so will be looking to get some amazing suggestions from you, our students, throughout the week.

JAKE RODGERS

ACTIVITIES OFFICER

So Big ideas week is coming to campus very soon and I am very excited to meet with as many students as possible across campus, to find out what you want to change. The Big Ideas initiative allows you all to voice your ideas for change and there have been some amazing Big Ideas in the past, including coffee being accepted in the library as well as effective changes to the Wellbeing reception. You have an incredible amount of power to make change for yourself, your peers and future students. Get your Big Ideas heard!

JONATHAN STEPHEN

EDUCATION OFFICER

Think BIG and have your #BigIdeas ready for us next week, or you can submit online any time! Who knows, Your Big Idea might be put into action and make student life better for Huddersfield Students for years to come!
