Back in November we asked for your help in giving the Students’ Union floor a bit of a face-lift. Through social media and face-to-face interactions you overwhelming voted for the third design route option and we are now proud to announce that the majority of the work has been completed.

Over the Easter break we have had the decorators in and given the old clinical white walls a splash of colour and added new space for sports clubs, societies and students to showcase what they’ve been up to and the events they have coming up.

These spaces will mean all our brilliant activity groups will be able to show students how great they are and will hopefully help them attract even more members.

The whole face-lift is the result of a motion that VP Communications & Democracy, Coco Toma, put to Union Council in May 2014 and is the second stage of the project – stage one was our consultation in November.

The aim of the motion was to encourage the Students’ Union to improve the décor of the Students’ Union floor and Coco said: "When we moved over to Student Central in January 2014 my impressions of the new building were very positive. We had moved into a brand new building, with fantastic new facilities but I felt there was something missing.

"I realised that the SU could do with having more colour around the floor to help it step away from looking so corporate and I’m delighted that the revamp has finally been completed. The colour really makes a difference in differentiating where the University ends and the Students’ Union begins.

"There is still more work to do, but it is definitely a great start. I really hope that our project will encourage the University to add more colour and life around academic departments and social areas to make students feel more inspired."

"I’m really looking forward to the next phase so that students have a space which they fully own and can relax in whether it is between lectures, with friends or as part of a group or society."

Further work still to be completed includes the introduction of new signage throughout the floor and a few extra surprises. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks!
