Islamic Society President, Omar Al-Qaisia, has been named Muslim Student of the Year at the Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS) Annual Conference.
The award caps an amazing year for Omar who was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Student Life award at the SU Awards 2015.
He was also named Society Personality of the Year at the SU Awards and VP Student Activities, Jordan Aird, commented on hearing the news he had picked up a third prize: “It’s no surprise to see Omar being recognised at a national level with his generosity, not just to students, but also to the wider community knowing no bounds, while his determination and leadership has seen ISoc continue to grow into a brilliant society.”
The award was presented at the 52nd FOSIS Annual Conference where the Islamic Society joined other student societies from across the country to discuss the future of the federation and its community.
Speaking about the conference, Omar said: “It was a great series of talks and workshops from international thinkers, speakers, NUS and others. Some of the conference was even broadcast live on international television stations.”
Formed in 1963, the Federation of Student Islamic Societies represents over 120 Islamic Societies and approximately 115,000 students in the UK and Ireland.
