Make Sure You're A Member To Vote

At the University of Huddersfield you are automatically a member of the Students' Union unless you choose to opt out during registration (something we are legally obliged to offer under the terms of the Education Act 1994).

All students (irrespective of whether they opt out) have access to our key services, like our Advice Centre and activity groups.

What's this all got to do with the elections though?

To vote in the SU Elections you must be an ordinary member of the Union. If you've accidentally chosen to opt out, we've provided a handy little guide below that explains the five quick steps you'll need to go through to fix this - it only takes five minutes and is 100% automatic/online:

1. Log into the Portal

2. Click on the 'My Studies' tab at the top left of the page

3. Click on the 'My Details' button on the left hand side of the screen

4. Click on ‘View/Change Registration Preferences’ on the right hand side of the screen

5. Then check to make sure that the first question is set to ‘Yes’.

If it is set to ‘No’, change it to ‘Yes’ and click save.

Please note it takes 24 hours for this change to become active, which means if you want to opt in and therefore be able to vote in any SU Elections, you must complete this process at least 24 hours before voting closes.

To ensure that you can vote in this year's elections we are advising students to make this change before 21:00 tonight - Monday 9 March.

If you require any help with this process, please come up to the Help Desk in the Students’ Union (Floor 5, Student Central), or contact us via email on students.union@hud.ac.uk.

You can download the guide along with images here.
