The Students’ Union and LGBTQ Society have teamed up to promote LGBT History Month throughout February.
The month aims to promote tolerance and raise awareness of the prejudices faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Things got under way today with a coffee morning hosted by the LGBTQ Society in the Students' Union and they will be hosting a second coffee morning on Tuesday 17 Feb between 11:00-13:00.
They will also be hosting a series of film nights in the SU with the first taking place tonight on Floor 5 of Student Central. Scroll down to see the full list of films being shown throughout the month.
During February there will be a dedicated stall displaying different stories from LGBT History that will include quotes of the day so you can come along and learn about LGBT history at your leisure.
Huddersfield University Sport are also getting in on the action with teams being asked to don rainbow laces when competing in their Wednesday matches in support of the campaign. The laces are available from the SU Helpdesk for 50p and the best Twitter picture and hashtag will win a prize.
We haven’t forgotten about the rest of you though and we will be giving away badges and lots of freebies such as rainbow themed sweets throughout the month and want you to send in your best pictures from the campaign.
To finish off a cracking month of promotion and campaigning we will be holding a LGBT History Month Celebration on 25 February. This will take the form of stalls situated in Student Central headed by our very own LGBT Society, local businesses and charities offering advice, information and lots of fun.
If you have any questions or want to be involved in the month please do not hesitate to contact the Student Activities Team or VP Wellbeing and Equalities Alysia Ford.
