Here in the Students’ Union we are constantly striving to make student life the best that it can be - and we like to think we’re doing a pretty great job.

But we realise you can’t just take our word for it, so every year we put together a round up report of all of our achievements. We call this document the Impact Report.

The report details everything from volunteering campaigns, Freshers’ Festival statistics, finance and spending, and even how many times you’ve ‘liked’ us on Facebook.

It’s important to us – and to you – that we’re as transparent as possible so that we can keep representing you the best way that we can. We’re here for you after all!

Here are some fantastic statistics from the report;

Student Staff Recruitment

Over the course of the past year, we’ve paid out £82,905 in wages to our student staff team through various roles and opportunities. Alongside this, we’ve expanded the roles available through the SU and recieved a grand total of 167 applications for our student staff positions in the last round of recruiting.

Activities Quality Mark

This year we saw great results with the AQM, a framework for student-led activity groups. The aim of the AQM is to support sports and societies by rewarding them for their achievements and successes. A total of 25 clubs and societies have gained accreditation since launching the scheme, including gold awards for H-Karts, the Islamic Society and Radio Hud.

Removal of Card Charges

This year our Student Exec and Union Councillor teams worked together on a plan to get card charges removed from purchases in the Students’ Union shop. After the success of the scheme, students have collectively saved over £15,000 worth of card charges.

Student Satisfaction

After the conclusion of our annual Rate Your Union survey, we noticed some great feedback from our students. A whopping 85% of those surveyed think that the Students’ Union has a positive impact on their life at University, while 77% said they are completely satisfied with the work that we do – that’s an increase of 10% on last year!
