Every year, the Huddersfield Hawks American Football team get together to raise money for charity with their ‘Big Lift’ event. This year, they are continuing to do so for Breast Cancer Awareness – much like the NFL players do annually – so of course the wearing of pink is also encouraged during the challenge!

Hawks aim to raise £2000 through the month of November which shall be split 50/50; half going towards (in their own words) ‘kicking cancer’s butt’, with the other half going towards the maintaining the club.

The Big Lift is an all-day event in which the team – along with family and friends – get together to cumulatively lift 1,000,000kg with a bench presses, squats, and deadlifts. For example; if they were to squat 60kg for 10 reps, that would add 600kg towards their total.

The event will be held on November 25th, upstairs in the Strength and Conditioning room of the University’s gym with help from TeamHud. Hawks start their challenge early at 8:00am, and won’t stop lifting as a team until they reach their total goal.

The committee said; “Whether you want to donate your entire student loan, or you’ve spent it all on books and beers already and can only donate 10p, every little helps towards our goal! Even if you can’t spare any money, come down to the gym and lift until you can’t lift no more and be part of something great!
