A lot goes into making the Students’ Union Elections happen and a big part of making them a success is Student Media. Programme Controller and Head of Elections Team for Radio Hud, Sean Wright, speaks to us about covering the elections.

Elections are a crazy time of year. Preparations start for Radio Hud before most candidates even decide to run. For Radio Hud, the planning and elections team were together from the end of January.

We're busy working alongside the Students’ Union to create valuable and informative content for students and voters so that they are informed about what the roles and responsibilities are for each vacancy, which candidates are running and details of their manifestos.

Radio Hud coverage of the elections has easily become one of the biggest and most important parts of elections. We provide candidates the opportunities to get their voices heard.

Both part-time and full-time candidates are invited to introduce themselves to voters in the electoral packages that are then available to listen to online on the Radio Hud Mixcloud.

Exciting

We also cover Candidate Question Time live on air. This is a fantastic and exciting part of the elections where audience members get to ask candidates questions about their promises and commitments should they get into the role. And if people can’t tune in or attend they can follow our Twitter feed for more information and updates.

The in-studio debates are our second favourite part of the coverage second only to the results night. At the in-studio debates, candidates get to discuss their manifesto points and this is the opportunity for candidates to prove their competence and knowledge of the job roles and for current exec members and position holders to defend their positions and question the other candidates. The in-studio debates will be held on Thursday 5 March at 17:30.

We will be streaming the results night live throughout the night from Rhubarb and you can tune in at RadioHud.co.uk or on the Tunein app. We'll be announcing the winners as they happen and interviewing the winners and losers straight after the announcements! The Results Show will start from 19:00.

Keep in the loop by following Radio Hud across social media on Twitter and Facebook and you can listen live through their website or on the Tunein app.
