As part of our work getting more University of Huddersfield students involved in the upcoming General Election, we're hosting a debate between all the candidates for the Huddersfield constituency.
It'll be your chance to directly grill prospective MPs on your issues, and make sure that students' voices are heard.
The candidates who have confirmed attendance are:
Barry Sheerman – Labour
Rob Butler – UKIP
Itrat Ali – Conservatives
Andrew Cooper – Greens
Zulfiqar Ali – Lib Dems
Mike Forster – TUSC
Taking place on Tuesday 21 April at 17:30 in the Students’ Union (Floor 5, Student Central), the debate is open to all students and staff but for those that can’t make it on Tuesday we’ve got a whole range of ways you can still get involved.
We’ll be live tweeting from the event to keep you abreast of everything that happens. You can also submit questions ahead of the event by tagging us @HuddersfieldSU and we’ll endeavour to make sure it is asked. To ensure we see your tweets use the hashtag #HudGE2015.
Using Twitter’s newest app, Periscope, we’ll be live-streaming the entire night. As on Twitter you can find us @HuddersfieldSU and we’ll also post out the link on the night as well – unfortunately we won’t be able to ask candidates any questions submitted through this platform.
*Never experienced Periscope? Download it from the app store and we'll be broadcasting live today at 13:00 to reveal the brand new Students' Union redesign.
On the night we’ll be running a live blog on our website. The link will go live on Tuesday and we'll post this out through social media. As with Periscope, we won’t be able to ask any questions submitted through this platform.
Can’t make it but still want to ask a question. You can do so by emailing our Student Voice team. After the event you’ll be able to catch up through our Periscope broadcast or our live blog which will be archived.
Our student radio station, Radio Hud, will be broadcasting live from the event and giving anyone with an internet connection the opportunity to listen to the debates. They’ll also be providing alternative Twitter coverage to our own.
To make sure you can have your say in the General Election you need to be registered to vote. It's all done online and only takes a couple of minutes. You’ll need your date of birth and National Insurance number when completing the form.
You can register to vote if you are a British, Commonwealth or European Union citizen.
If you have lost your national insurance number you can contact HM Revenue and Customs on 0845 915 7006 who will be able to help you track your number.
By registering to vote you qualify for a FREE ticket to our Spring Break event on Monday 20 April. Head over to the event page here to claim your ticket to this party that will kick-start your final term in style, featuring Freshers' favourite Beat A Maxx.
