With just 6 days to go until the official launch of Freshers’ 2015, here are a few updates from Jordan Aird, your VP Student Activities!

After months of planning, Freshers’ Week is just around the corner! I’m sure you’re now well aware of the variety of events we’ve put on, from HudCrawl (of which tickets are still available for and you should not miss out on!) to Wacky Bikes, Come Dine with Hud to HudLive, there’s all sorts you can be getting involved in!

On the topic of HudLive; it is my pleasure to be able to announce the line-up for the student stage of HudLive, The Canopy! After introducing the stage to last year’s event, I firmly believe that we should be showcasing the talent of Huddersfield students at every possible opportunity. This has effectively doubled the amount of acts performing at HudLive, giving you even more of a reason to buy a ticket if you haven’t already!

So here it is, the line-up for The Canopy stage of HudLive on Friday 25th September. First up we’ll have Cauley Pritchard an acoustic performer, one man and his guitar. The stage will also include rock and indie style bands Sam Rothery and Postculture! Rapping group The MAJOR Team will also be appearing on the night before we move on to the DJs. Anish Mistry will be the penultimate act, providing a great opportunity for a first year student as he will perform an R&B inspired DJ set.

Finally, Manchester based House DJ Mateusz, will be closing the stage. Being a resident at popular Manchester venue the Antwerp Mansion, Matthew Riley has also performed at Parklife and their after-parties! So when you arrive up at Storthes Hall for HudLive next Friday, make sure you take the time to check out The Canopy to fully appreciate just some of the talented student performers we have here at Huddersfield!

Before all that though, don’t forget that International Welcome Week starts tomorrow! We’ve lined up a special edition of HudMovies hosted up on the Students’ Union floor of student central (Floor 5), with a showing of classic British Film – all free of charge! We’re also running our Discover Yorkshire Tour this Friday, which will give you a tour of the greatest county in the country. You can buy your tickets here for all events which haven’t yet sold out.

This time next week we will have just packed down after two days of our Freshers’ Fair! Held in the University’s Sports Hall, Freshers’ Fair Parts I & II will feature each and every one of our sports clubs and societies. Speak to as many of them as possible and make sure you take advantage of all the freebies and discounts from local businesses! We may also have a pretty big special guest attending so keep your eyes peeled...

During the move-in weekends the rest of the exec team and I were handing out this year’s edition of our Freshers’ Survival Guides! In there you will find everything you need to know about Huddersfield, the Students’ Union, and plenty of other hints and tips which may help you get through the year.

As always if you need anything don’t be afraid to pop up to the Students’ Union and ask at the front desk, and equally if you see my afro bobbing around campus over the next couple of weeks make sure you stop me to say hello!

Enjoy Freshers’ and tweet your best photos from the week using the #HudFreshers!
