The University of Huddersfield Rugby Union Women’s section began life in September 2013 and boasted over 20 members by the end of the academic year.

The mission of the women’s team is to recreate people’s opinion of women in rugby in order to set up a fit, enthusiastic team of girls who either want to continue their ambition of playing rugby through University or take up the sport as an absolute beginner and just give-it-a-go.

As a team, they’ve proven that all shapes and sizes truly are welcome in the sport and the idea that women’s rugby is only for the larger lady is totally wrong and outdated.

This success is evident by the ever-increasing numbers at training as well as the rapid improvement in skill seen from even the newest of players due to their fantastic Rugby Football Union coach, Chris Stone.

Playing in development games against players of the same level from other universities across Yorkshire has also contributed greatly to the increase in ability of players.

University sport is not just about the on-pitch action and the women's team have a vibrant social scene.

Every Wednesday they host successful socials that include fun costumes and theme nights to just simply having an excuse to get together and enjoy a drink or two.

The whole team has a great relationship with one another and consider themselves part of a big rugby family that works hard together, plays hard together and looks out for one another.

Get yourself involved whether you’re well-practised with that egg-shaped ball or an absolute beginner and become part of one of the fastest growing teams on campus.
