A sold out Give-It-A-Go day gave potential members an ideal opportunity to see what the Horse Riding Society is all about. We spoke to club President, Siobhan Winstanley about the day.

As a new society we jumped at the chance to hold an open day at our local riding school, Lee Hill.

This gave us the opportunity to show potential new members what we do and encourage them to catch the bug and join us! The event quickly sold out and we soon had a waiting list. Lots of stress and sleepless nights followed!

Our ‘Give-It-A-Go’ took place on Sunday 15 February 2015 – when our eight potential members were shown how to tack up, muck out and look after the horses.

Of course, we also had to give them a taste of the main event and despite fights over favourite ponies; everyone got the chance to ride for half an hour - which would normally cost £20 at our school!

Everyone did an excellent job at riding and we even got the chance to take turns doing a few small jumps at the end of the day. It wasn’t all plain sailing though as someone had to ride our young horse Millie.

The new participants thoroughly enjoyed their first horse ride and our society was grateful to have had the opportunity to teach them.

Our open days are as much of a benefit to us as they are to potential members – we get to teach, volunteer and have freedom in the lessons we do. It is also very gratifying to have our participants inform us of how much they enjoyed the day and to witness the joy people experience when they learn to ride.

Don’t miss any of our future taster sessions which happen twice a year – one after Freshers’ and one after Refreshers’.

It’s worth mentioning that horse riding has never been so cheap. After signing up for only £30, you receive discounts to events and social nights, along with lessons at your disposal for nearly a QUARTER of our schools normal price.
